Useful Info about Prozac

Prozac also known as Fluoxetine, is an antidepressant drug that belongs to the class of SSRIs. This medication is used commonly in dealing with depression. Prozac works by influencing certain chemicals in the brain. When certain chemicals in our brain are not in balance, different mental problems such as depression, panic, anxiety, or some others might occur.

Prozac antidepressant medication can successfully treat the following conditions: depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, nutritional disorders, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Prozac can also be used in combination with Olanzapine (Zyprexa) medication to treat depression provoked by bipolar disorder.

Prozac medication should be avoided to be used with such meds as pimozide, thioridazine, and MAOI medications.

Patients should know about a very serious side reaction of Prozac – at the beginning of the treatment with this medicine suicidal thinking and acting might be observed, especially in younger patients.

A health provider should be immediately notified in case a patient develops such symptoms as mood swings and changes in acting, sleep disorders, panic attacks, irritation, agitation, aggressiveness, hyperactivity, suicide thinking and behavior.

Prozac medication is not intended for the use in pregnant women because all SSRI antidepressants tend to cause serious and even life-threating lung problems in infant if their mothers were treating with this drug during pregnancy. Females who become pregnant and are recommended to stop the treatment with Prozac are very likely to develop depression again.

Prozac gets into breast milk and might do harm to the infant, that’s why this medication should be avoided during breastfeeding.

Before starting the treatment with this medication, a patient must tell a health provider about the existing health problems especially such as liver or kidney impairments, seizures or epilepsy, diabetes, major affective disorder, or a substance abuse in the past. If you have any of the above mentioned conditions, a dose adjustment of Prozac medication might be needed.

As the depression might worsen during the initial period of the treatment as well as suicidal thinking might happen, the family of the patient who is taking Prozac should closely watch the alterations in the mood and behavior of the person.

For the successful treatment and avoiding side effects, use Prozac medication as it is recommended by a healthcare provider.  It is not recommended to alter the dose on your own without consulting with a medical provider. Besides, the medication should be taken during the time period defined by the medical provider.

Take Prozac whole without breaking it or chewing, as it might affect the way the medication acts.

Generally, the effects of Prozac medication can be seen in 4 weeks after the beginning of the use.  It is strongly recommended not to discontinue the treatment with Prozac without speaking to the healthcare provider first as the abrupt discontinuation of the treatment might cause unfavourable adverse effects.

For better effects this medication should be taken on a regular basis. In case the dose is misses, it should be taken once remembered.  The overdose of this medicine should be avoided, so don’t take two doses at once. If the overdose occurs, seek medical attention right away. Among the symptoms of the overdose are: fever, sleep disorders, heartbeat irregularities, confusion, fainting, nausea, vomiting, seizures, or even coma.

While treating with Prozac antidepressant medication the drinking of alcohol must be avoided as it might influence the effect of the antidepressant in a negative way and lead to unfavourable reactions.

Wellbutrin

I hope someone has help for me! (fingers
crossed)

I started taking wellbutrin in August of last year
after getting so depressed and overweight I seeked
medical attention.

My doc started me on 150mg Sr
first two weeks and increased me to 150mg 2x daily.
Since then, I have felt great and lost 43 pounds.

Reciently, about a month ago, I have been feeling depressed
and low again. VERY tired and lazy feeling all day. I
am thinking it is the heat factor and my doc said I
am just tired from working all day.

I am a
little afraid to tell him I am feeling depressed and
that he might increase my dose (I worry about seziure
factors) I like to seldomly have a glass of
wine.

Anyhow, I feel spacey and out of it, like before. Any of
you experienced this? Could I be getting better and
not need 300mg? Have any of you self experimented
with this med? I am thinking of trying to cut back to
150mg in the morning and see if I start feeling
better!

Also, from the heat I have been getting more dry
mouthed and thirsty. I am thinking it is from the med as
well. Any advice would be so so helpful! Thank you
bunched~

Effexor XR

I’m taking it for major depression and
generalized anxiety disorder, I’ve also been told I’m
slightly bi-polar. Is anyone else on this drug? I’ve been
on it for a little over a week. It seems to be
helping me, but i’ve heard some major horror stories from
others who have taken it. I’m currently taking 75 mg. a
day, which I’m told is a low dosage. Any input would
be appreciated!

Serzone

I’m looking for others’ experiences with serzone.
I’m a 46 yo man, in my 3rd day of serzone, 50 mg
2x/day for now. Bad side effects: headache like the back
of my skull smashed in; drowsiness; and today,
nausea. The depression was better than this! Has anyone
had this experience?

Should I press on?

Will these side effects diminish?

Will they return as soon as the daily miligrams are increased?

Anyone Know about Celexa

My newest Doctor changed my Rx to Celexa.

It is going to take 3 weeks for me to get off current meds, 1 week of no meds, then allow  another 4 weeks for this one to start working…?

can you see me digging a hole to just throw myself into!? I’m dreading this change! 2  MONTHS of hell is what I see. Everytime I change meds it seems so traumatic.

Does anyone else experience this?

this new doc also gave me a move/video on SAD.

anyone seen it?
